Chinese Kite

It is well known that Chinese Kites were first invented by the Chinese about 2,000 years ago. Much later about the 12th century, kites became known to the western countries and following this the different specific cultures of kites were gradually formed in both eastern and western countries. During the age of kites development some special local cultures concerning kites formed which combining Chinese traditional culture and the handicraft of making kites. These included fairy tales, flowers, birds, animals, and some kites were thought to be lucky

 

Chinese kites are traditionally made from paper, bamboo, string and are then usually painted very colorfully. The bamboo is usually very thin and silk is sometimes used instead of paper, Chinese kites can be both hard and soft, this term applies to the wings of the kite and determines what sort of a kite it is.

 

A Chinese kite with hard wings can usually fly higher and in strong winds while one with soft wings cannot fly as high but can fly further away. The kites are often painted to look like insects, animals and fishes
